How are porcelain veneers made?

Porcelain veneers are designed to feel and look like natural teeth, allowing you to eat and speak with confidence. Once the dental lab delivers your veneers, you return to the office to have them permanently cemented into place. 

How are veneers placed?

Placement of porcelain veneers happens in two stages. The first stage is the preparation stage, during which your dentist removes a small portion of your tooth enamel to make room for the veneer. The procedure is typically performed without anesthesia, but your dentist can administer a local anesthetic to prevent any pain or discomfort. After the teeth are prepped, the team takes impressions of your smile and sends them off to the lab. While you wait for your veneer to be delivered from the dental lab, a temporary veneer may be placed to help maintain your appearance. 

The second stage is the actual placement of the veneer. After removing the temporary veneer, your dentist places the custom-made porcelain veneer over your tooth and makes final adjustments to ensure a perfect fit. Your dentist then applies an adhesive and uses a specialized light to permanently bond the veneer to the surface of your tooth. 

Porcelain veneers need to be maintained just like your natural teeth.
