All-On-4 Q & A

What is All-on-4?

All-on-4 is a revolutionary dental implant procedure that replaces all the missing teeth on your upper or lower arch with just four well-placed implants. Your provider installs the implants directly into available bone in your upper or lower jaw, so you don’t require extensive bone grafting.

All-on-4 implants are a permanent solution to pervasive tooth loss that look and function like your natural teeth.

What are the benefits of All-on-4?

There are a host of reasons to choose All-on-4:

  • No bone grafting needed
  • They’re comfortable
  • You don’t have to take them out to brush or maintain
  • Support your facial structure
  • Prevent bone loss and degeneration
  • Look completely natural
  • Allow you to eat your favorite foods
  • They’re permanent
  • Are easy to clean
  • They’re cost-effective

In addition, All-on-4 is much faster than doing individual implants slowly over several weeks or months.

What can I expect at an All-on-4 appointment?

Unlike many dental practices, at Ramona Family Dentistry, the advanced treatment is performed by a board-certified periodontist or an oral surgeon right in the comfort of the office. The state-of-the-art facility is equipped with the latest in digital technology, so they perform your All-on-4 procedure using computed tomography (CT).

The procedure itself is quite fast, no more than two or three hours in most cases. It starts with sedation, so you’re at rest and unaware while your doctor installs four implants - - two in the front of your jaw and two toward the back. He fastens your temporary dental bridge to the implants, closes your incisions, and thoroughly cleans the area. When you wake up, you’ll be wearing a brand new smile.

What is the recovery time for All-on-4?

It’s likely that you’ll be sore, and your gums and mouth may swell after the treatment. Your provider will prescribe some medication to help if you need it. The total healing time for your implants to fuse with the bone averages about six months. Once your mouth is fully healed, your oral surgeon replaces the temporary bridge with your new permanent teeth on the base of the implant. That concludes the treatment, and your provider checks on them a couple times a year at your routine dental appointment and cleaning.
